Orduna Hearing .... On August 28th, Efraim Huerta Orduna will complete his first year in the Franklin County Jail. Orduna was arrested on that date last summer for the kidnapping and rape of a 24 year old Winchester woman. In September he was charged with the Christmas Eve 2004 kidnapping and murder of Frankie Shea Ledbetter from Whistle Stop. Thus far, his hearing has been set for September 12th, unless it is postponed again.

 

Alsup Hired .... Fonda Alsup, who for the last six years has served as Franklin County's 4-H Agent, was hired this week as an agriculture teacher at FCHS. Ms. Alsup was reportedly chosen from a field of three applicants.

 

Early Voting .... Early voting will continue in Franklin County through July 29th at the Franklin County Election Commission. A total of 808 early ballots had been cast just before closing Monday evening.

 

Weekend Arrests .... Arrests in Franklin County over the weekend included the following charges ... possession of a legend drug, manufacturing marijuana, DUI, violation of implied consent, reckless driving, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, felony evading arrest, aggravated assault, vandalism, driving on suspended, cruelty to animals, criminal impersonation, introducing contraband into the county jail, domestic violence assault, public intoxication, disorderly conduct, worthless check charges and misuse of 911.

 

Paula's Girls .... Sixteen girls from Paula's School of Baton participated in the Twirlacular Hawaii Competition at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu earlier this month and came home with two individual and two team awards. The group also performed in the 4th of July Parade at Pearl Harbor and the parade at the eastern shore town of Kale-o-a, where it was the highlighted unit behind an Australian military band. WCDT congratulates these girls.

 

Alto Fire .... The Franklin County Sheriff's Department is investigating a fire that destroyed a rental house on the Old Alto Highway last week. The house owned by Patsy Garner was totally engulfed in flames and was determined to be a total loss.

 

Fatal Accident .... 75 year old Georgia Edna Rose Patton died in a single vehicle accident last week when her car went off the road, struck a culvert and flipped over. The accident happened on the Old Alto Highway, just beyond the intersection of Knights Church Road.
